Odisha: Kandhamal and Balangir COVID hospitals start operation

Bhubaneswar: A COVID hospital started operation in Kandhamal district of Odisha today. The Kalinga Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) is taking care of this state Govt run hospital. The 150 bedded hospital started operation at the Nursing College in Phulbani. 10 Intensive Care Units (ICUs) will be operational here within one week.

Similarly, another COVID hospital started operation today at the Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) campus in Balangir. This is a 200 bedded COVID hospital. Earlier a modern dispensary was operational here.

The hospital will be equipped with 20 ICUs which will be operational within one week. While KIMS is taking care of this hospital, a team constituting 50 to 60 people including doctors, nurses, pharmacists, biomedical engineers , electrical engineers and house keeping staff from KIMS Bhubaneswar have shifted to Balangir to work in this hospital.

Deputy Registrar of KIMS Dillip Panda has been appointed as the nodal officer of this covid hosp.

Both the hospitals in Kandhamal and Balangir are equipped with hi-end modern facilities. These hospitals have hi-tech ambulances, 2 inova vehicles each, 24 hour electricity back up arrangement.

Kandhamal MP Dr. Achyuta Samanta has thanked Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and Odisha Govt for giving the opportunity to KIMS. On the inauguration he encouraged the doctors, paramedical staff and health workers and wished them good luck.

In the meanwhile the Health and Family Welfare Department of Odisha said in a tweet, “Further strengthening its preparedness to contain the spread of COVID19, Odisha has made 20 COVID Hospitals operational. Another 15 upcoming hospitals will be operational soon.”
