Odisha dips in ‘Diwali’ revelry; CM Naveen Patnaik posts twitter wishes

Bhubaneswar: Long queues in front of the firecracker and sweet stalls were seen across the state today as denizens dipped in ‘Diwali’ fervour to welcome the ‘festival of light’.

People were seen virtually competing with each other to purchase their favourite lot of clay lamps, candles, fancy lights and firecrackers including ‘talaphotka’, ‘kumpi’ and ‘jhurjhuri’ starting from the morning. While firecracker stores were set up at a specified distant from the market places and colonies, the revellers didn’t hesitate to take that extra pain to get them.

Similarly, people were also seen thronging the temples to have darshan of deities for a happy and prosperous Diwali this season. Almost all the temples in the state irrespective of rural and urban area witnessed a flood of devotees on this occasion.

Similarly, in the religious town Puri a sea of devotees took part in the ‘Bada Badua Calling’, a special ritual performed by burning of jute sticks (Kaunria) in front of the ‘Lion Gateway’ (Singha Dwara) of the Sri Jaganath temple. Some others offered ‘Paya Shradha’ (homage to ancestors) on the Twenty Two Steps (Baisi Pahacha) to the Srimandir on this auspicious occasion.

Extending warm greetings to the people of Odisha, CM Naveen Patnaik also extended his best wishes on his twitter handle.

Similarly, PM Narendra Modi also took to twitter to wish the people of India a happy and prosperous Diwali as he celebrated it with jawans of the Indian Army and ITBP, at Harsil in Uttarakhand.
