Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik Hails Villagers Of Kendrapara District

Kendrapara: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik was all praise for the villagers of Badakot under Rajnagar block in Kendrapara district. The CM hailed the villagers for creating lush-green luxuriant mangrove forests in and around the village that act as protective barriers during natural calamities.

As the coastal district of Kendrapara is often hit by nature’s fury, these mangroves successfully withstand the wind velocity during cyclones. This also protects the flora and fauna from getting killed during natural disasters.

Several residents had to go homeless after being hit by natural calamities. So, the villagers decided to protect their village and animals from nature’s fury. In 2008, they formed Maa KharaKhai Lunajungle Surakhya Samiti. The Samiti members together worked to create mangroves in a sum total of 25 acres of land.

This mangrove now helps them during natural calamities.

Praising the villagers for their efforts, the CM took to his Twitter handle and wrote, “Commend the efforts of environmentalist Bijay Kumar Kabi & local villagers in Kendrapara’s Badakot village who have created 25 acres of mangrove forest in 12 years. This initiative will inspire others for afforestation and protect the environment.”

The happiness of villagers knew no bounds after the CM’s praise. They requested the CM to construct stone embankments in the river surrounding their village to save them from floods.
