Odisha CM approves slew of projects for Puri amid demolition row

Bhubaneswar: Amid the demolition row near Srimandir in Puri, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Thursday approved a slew of projects for the holy city.

The Chief Minister approved Rs 25 crore for reconstruction of Raghunandan Library within the premises of Emar mutt, said a CMO communiqué.

The famous Raghunandan Library on the first floor of the mutt was demolished last week.

The heritage library was established in 1921 by the then ‘mahant’ of the Emar Mutt. It had rare palm leaf manuscripts and books on various subjects in Sanskrit, Odia and Bengali languages.

A housing project worth Rs 95 crore has also been approved for rehabilitation of the displaced people due to the ongoing demolition drive carried under the security zone of Shri Jagannath temple in the holy city.

Around 600 houses will be constructed for them within 1.5 km radius of the Shree Jagannath Temple.
