Odisha: BJD wins Patkura Assembly election

Kendrapara: Odisha’s ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) on Wednesday won the Patkura Assembly election with a margin of over 17000 votes.

BJD’s Sabitri Agrawalla, wife of former Minister Bed Prakash Agarwalla, bagged a total of 95,162 votes, while Bijoy Mohapatra of BJP came second with 77,507 votes and Jayanta Mohanty of Congress got only 2090 votes after all the 18 rounds of EVM counting.

Polling was held in 309 polling booths in the Assembly segments on July 20. Around 72.75 per cent voter turnout was recorded in the election.

Election to Patkura was countermanded following the death of 82-year-old BJD candidate Bed Prakash Agarwalla on April 20.
