Nayagarh MVI arrested for possessing DA to the tune of 293%

Odisha Vigilance today arrested Panchanan Behera, the Motor vehicle inspector (MVI) of Nayagarh district on charges of possession of disproportionate assets (DA) to the tune of 293% of his known sources of income, which he could not account for satisfactorily.

Nayagarh: Odisha Vigilance today arrested Panchanan Behera, the Motor vehicle inspector (MVI) of Nayagarh district on charges of possession of disproportionate assets (DA) to the tune of 293% of his known sources of income, which he could not account for satisfactorily.

Behera was forwarded to the Court of Special Judge, Vigilance, Bhubaneswar after his arrest. In this connection, Vigilance Cell PS Case No.01 dated 10.01.2024 was registered against Panchanan Behera, MVI, Nayagarh and his spouse U/s 13(2) r/w 13(1)(b)/12 P.C. Amendment Act, 2018.

The following movable and immovable assets worth Crores were unearthed in his name and in the names of his family members;

  • One double storeyed building located at Sailashree Vihar, Bhubaneswar with area over 3000 Sqft.
  • One single storeyed building located at Satya Vihar, Pandara, Bhubaneswar with area approx 2400 Sqft.
  • 31 plots in prime area in Bhubaneswar, of which 10 are benami plots.
  • Bank & Insurance deposits worth Rs.72.80 Lakhs.
  • Cash, Gold and household articles worth over Rs.15 Lakhs.
  • Expenditure over Rs.50 Lakhs made by Behera towards Medical education (MBBS) of his son at SOA, University, Bhubaneswar.
  • 4 benami vehicles including 1 four wheeler (Maruti Ritz) & 3 two wheelers.

Further probe is underway.
