Naveen Patnaik congratulates DRDO for successfully test firing HSTDV off Odisha coast

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Wednesday congratulated the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) for successfully test firing Hypersonic Technology Defence Vehicle (HSTDV) from Abdul Kalam Island off Odisha coast.

The Chief Minister took Twitter route to congratulate to the DRDO for the success, saying “It bolsters India’s defence capability in air space.”

The HSTDV was test-fired from launch pad number-4 of Integrated Test Range (ITR) at Abdul Kalam Island off Odisha coast at 11.22 A.M.

Developed under a special project, HSTDV (Hypersonic Technology Demonstrator Vehicle) is an unmanned scramjet demonstration aircraft for hypersonic speed flight.

With scramjet engine, it can cruise at Mach 6 and have multiple civilian applications. It can be used for launching satellites at low cost and long-range cruise missile, sources said.

The trial was conducted in the presence of the senior scientists of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Defence secretary Sanjay Mitra, sources added.
