Keonjhar: More than a half dozen school children had a narrow escape after their school van caught fire near Dhanabeni village in Patana Tehsil of the district today.
According to reports, as many as seven students of Saraswati Sishu Vidya Mandir were returning from the school in a TATA Magic Van when the vehicle caught fire on the road. However, learning about the mishap, the driver stopped the van soon following which everyone got down from the vehicle and fled the spot to save their lives.
While the exact cause of the fire is yet to be known, it is suspected that the inferno might have taken place due to a short-circuit.
On being informed about the incident, a team of Odisha Fire and Disaster Department arrived at the spot and doused the fire. However, the vehicle was charred due to the fire.
The local police have started an investigation into the matter.
