Rourkela: In a shocking incident, a 13-year-old girl hung herself to death on her birthday in Sector-C area under Bandomunda police limits in Steel City last night.
The deceased has been identified as Sachita Thakur, daughter of SK Thakur of the same locality.
Family members of the deceased who studied in Class-7 was about to celebrate her birthday yesterday when she locked her up inside a room in the afternoon. After she didn’t open the door for a long time, family members smelled a rat and broke open the door to find her hanging to the ceiling.
Sanchita was rushed to Bandomunda railway hospital immediately where doctors declared her brought dead.
Police seized the body for autopsy after reaching the spot.
The reason behind the extreme step of the minor girl is yet to be ascertained.
