Youth trampled to death by elephant herd in Sundergarh

Sundergarh: In yet another case of jumbo attack in the State, a youth was trampled to death by a wild elephant herd in Sialjor village under Badagan forest range in Sundergarh district last night.

The deceased has been identified as Gobind Sa of the same locality.

As per the report, a herd comprising of elephants of different age had sneaked into Kutra block of the district last night in search of food. A group of youth from the village had launched a drive to drive the elephants away from Sialjor village to prevent crop damage.

While driving away the jumbos Gobind fell under the clutches of the herd and was trampled to death before others could save him.

While villagers called up forest department officials and reported the matter, they had not reached the village till the last report came in.
