Berhampur: A medical student was killed after the bike he was riding on was mowed down by a speeding truck at the Chamakhandi square in the Silk City on Monday. Locals staged a road blockade on the highway following the incident.
The deceased has been identified as Akhil Panigrahi, a 3rd year PG student of the MKCG Medical College and Hospital, Berhampur.
The incident occurred around noon today when the victim was riding to the college on his bike. Near Chamakhandi square on NH 215, a truck struck him from behind and drove away without stopping. Akhil’s bike got completely mangled in the accident leaving him critical on the spot. He died while being rushed to the MKCG hospital by the locals.
Angry locals staged a road blockade at the spot on the highway demanding compensation to the family of the victim. Police had not reached the spot till this report was filed.
