Martyred Odia CRPF jawan’s body reaches native village, last rites today

Sundergarh: The body of CRPF jawan Pradeep Panda who attained martyrdom during a gun battle with terrorists at Pulwama in terror-torn Jammu & Kashmir reached his native village Liploi in the district today.

Pradeep’s dead body was taken to the Rajgangpur Stadium in the morning amidst a sea of people who thronged Rajgangpur from all parts of the state to pay homage to the brave soldier. While CRPF personnel gave a guard of honour and gun salute to the martyr, people were seen making a beeline to enter the stadium to take glimpse of Pradeep.

Sundergarh Collector and SP along with the CRPF also remained present at the stadium.

Pradeep shed his life for nation’s sake on December 31 after a group of Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Muhammad terrorists raided the camp of 132 battalion of CRPF located at Lathpora very late in the night. They attacked the camp with grenades and resorted to indiscriminate firing from automatic rifles. Pradeep along with four other jawans struck bullet injuries while fighting with the ultras and died subsequently.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik announced a solatium of Rs 5 lakh to the kin of the dead jawan yesterday. The amount will be given from the state government’s Defence and Paramilitary Personnel Relief fund

Pradeep’s body was flown from the CRPF centre to New Delhi and then to Bhubaneswar airport yesterday where he was given a guard of honour by CRPF personnel. BJP leader Sameer Mohanty also paid tribute to the brave soul reaching the airport.

Pradeep would be consigned to the flames at his native village later today.
