Maoist attack construction camp in Kandhamal, kill guard, torch five vehicles

Phulbani: Unleashing Maoist fear again in Kandhamal district, Red rebels gunned down a security guard and torched a number of vehicles by attacking a road construction camp in Tikiripada village under Sudukumpa police limits last night.

The deceased watchman has been identified as Rabindra Mallick.

As per the report, a group of 10-12 twelve members of Kalahandi-Kandhamal-Boudh-Nayagarh (KKBN) division of outlawed CPI (Maoist) group raided the road construction camp set up for laying Sudrukumpa-Medikhol stretch of road near Patiamba area late in the night. The heavily armed ultras then dragged the watchman out of the camp to gun him down.

The Maoists torched 5 vehicles including 3 tractors, one road-roller and a mini-truck parked at the camp by resorting to sloganeering against a police encounter of last year which took place at Medikhol. The encounter had left five rebels dead.

Before leaving the spot the rebels left a poster on the body of the slain security guard.
