Man stealing for over 36 years and has 100 cases against him arrested in Odisha

Cuttack: The City Police today arrested a notorious thief who was stealing for over 36 years and has more than 100 cases against him at different police stations of Odisha, Maharashtra and West Bengal.

The accused has been identified as Hemant Das.

Badambadi police started an investigation after Pratap Chandra Das and Bikash Nayak, who are living under the jurisdiction of Badambadi police station, filed a complaint on January 30, 2022 alleging that some unknown persons had stolen property of worth around 3 lakhs including gold and silver jewelries and cash of Rs 50,000 while no one was there in the house on the night of January 29.

In the proses, cops arrested Hemant and seized gold ornaments, cash, fake aadhaar cards and, things he used to break doors and steal, from his possession.

While speaking to the media persons, Hemant said that he started stealing since 1986. He used to target mostly to the locked houses.

Earlier, Hemant was arrested and jailed at least 70 times. However, he said that he cannot leave stealing as he has already become a habitual thief.

The accused will be forwarded to the court later today, said sources.
