Locals stage road blockade to protest against elephant attacks in Sundargarh

The locals of a village have staged a road blockade against regular elephant attacks in Sundargarh district of Odisha. 

Sundargarh: The locals of a village have staged a road blockade against regular elephant attacks in Sundargarh district of Odisha. Villagers have blocked the road in Jakeikala village of Sundergarh district demanding the transfer of elephants.

This morning two tuskers came in search of food and broke the house of a sugarcane farmer while his daughter was sleeping inside it. The elephant however ran away from the scene due to screaming.

Following this incident, the villagers set fire and blocked the road, demanding that the elephant be shooed off as soon as possible and proper compensation be given.

As a result, traffic has come to a complete standstill. The villagers have warned that they will continue to block the road until the forest officials remove the elephant. Dharani Dhar Pali of Banai Range, Singtolla of Barita Section, Deogaon, Jhika, Barita, Jakeikala, Nuapali have been running the danger of elephant attackUtopias for about a month in more than 20 villages.

They are breaking into the village, destroying the houses and eating the grain and destroying the threshing floor.
