Bhubaneswar: In what can be considered as a matter of great joy for the animal lovers, Asiatic lioness Bijili gave birth to one live cub at Nandankanan Zoological Park here today.
According to the authorities of Nandankanan Park, Asiatic lioness Bijili sired by Asiatic loin Samrat gave birth to one live cub today 2.15 AM after 110 days of pregnancy.
Bijili accepted the cub and feeding it. The zoo officials have kept it under constant observation through CCTV cameras.
The health condition of both lioness Bijili and its cub are stated to be good, said sources.
This is the third time that lioness Bijili gave birth. Earlier, it had delivered 2 cubs each in 2019 and 2021.
With the birth of the one cub today, the number of lions in the zoo rose to 18, added the sources.
It is to be noted that this is the second incident in a week that the zoo welcomed new members. Earlier, white tigress ‘Rupa’ had given birth to 3 cubs on Mar 11, 2022.
