Leopard Hide Smuggling: Odisha Police to take accused on 4-day remand

Deogarh: To take the investigation process ahead, the Special Task Force (STF) of Odisha Police will take three accused held in connection with leopard hide smuggling from Deogarh district recently.

The SDJM Court in Jajpur has accepted the appeal of the Crime Branch seeking four days remand of the smuggler trio.

The accused Sachikanta Nayak of Sundergarh along with Ramanisen Behera and Jagnadutta Behera of Deogarh had been arrested by the STF from Deogarh’s Barkot on June 20 this year while trying to sell a 7-feet-long leopard hide. They had purchased the hide from some poachers earlier.

Following the arrests the Crime Branch has charged the accused trio under relevant Sections of the IPC and Wildlife Protection Act.
