International Disability Day: 3 Collector honoured for empowering PwDs in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Odisha government on Monday felicitated three district Collectors of the state for their for their remarkable work in empowering Persons with Disabilities (PwDs).

Odisha government’s Social Security and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (SSEPD) Minister Prafulla Samal honoured the district collectors of Sonepur, Mayurbhanj and Koraput districts with the state-level honours for their extraordinary work in empowering the PwDs.

Along with this, 18 persons in 13 categories doing outstanding service to PwDs and talented PwDs were also honoured with the state-level awards. See the list:

Samal honoured them during a special programme orgainsed by the state government to observe the International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD) inside the campus of the National Career Services Centre for Differently Abled- NCSDA (erstwhile VRCH), Government of India, Ministry of Labour & employment, DGE, Bhubaneswar.

On this occasion, self-employment toolkits were also distributed to the people of Skill Development Training. Besides, laptops were distributed to the students with visual impairment, who received higher education.

The Minster also released during the programme, three booklets namely, ‘The Achievers’, ‘Ama Katha’ and ‘Unique Trio Initiative for Empowering PwDs through Skill Development Training Programme.

He also inaugurated the three-month module residential free pre-recruitment Coaching programme for PwDs for competitive examinations. Under the programme sponsored by the Department of SSEPD, 300 graduates will be given free three months of training each year at the NCSCDA, Bhubaneswar.

Under the joint venture of the government of India and the government of Odisha, the coaching classes will be held on banking, Staff Selection Commission, Railway, Odisha Public Service Commission (OPSC), Odisha Staff Selection Commission (OSSC), Odisha Sub-ordinate Staff Selection Commission (OSSSC), etc. for competitive examinations. At the same time, the Career Library for PwDs established last year will extend the various books to trainees who will undergo such coaching programme.

Niten Chandra, Principal Secretary, Susanta Kumar Mahapatra, Director, J. Mahala, Deputy Secretary (Employment) from the Department of SSEPD, Ram Kishor Sharma, Assistant Director (Employment), NCSDA, also attended the programme.

International Disability Day

The International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD) is celebrated every year on December 3rd with an aim to increase public awareness, understanding and acceptance of people with disability and celebrate their achievements and contributions.
