Hardcore cadre Maoist surrenders in Malkangiri

Malkangiri: A thirty-year old hardcore Maoist, who was carrying a reward of Rs 4 lakh on his head, surrendered before the Superintendent of Police (SP) in Malkangiri district of Odisha on Wednesday.

Jipro Habika, an active member of Gumma area committee — a crucial military zone of the CPI (Maoist), gave up arms to join the mainstream society, said Malkangiri police SP Rishikesh D Khilari.

The main reasons for which the ultra rebel changed his mind to join the mainstream include his realisation about  the futility of violent path of Naxalism, his disappointment over regional feeling between Telugu and other cadres among senior Maoist leaders, the developmental activities  being undertaken by the government of Odisha etc., said a press note issued by the Malkangiri police

A resident of Khajaguda under Narayanpatna police limits in Koraput district, Habika,  was alleged to be involved in many cases of violence including the killing of MLA K S Rao and former MLA S Soma in Andhra Pradesh, murder of Naib Sarpanch in Koraput district, Pottangi landmine blast and many more.

The surrendered Maoist will be provided monetary assistance as per the Surrender and Rehabilitation Scheme of the Odisha government, SP Khilari added.
