Balasore: A groom had to return empty-handed to his home after child protection unit officials stopped the marriage of a minor girl Bahanaga area of Balasore district last night.
The groom has been identified as Sarat Maharana, a resident of Tutigadia village under Khaira of the same district.
As per the report, Sarat’s marriage had been fixed with a girl in Bahanaga area and was scheduled to be held last night. But much to his bad luck a five-member team of District Child Protection Unit accompanied by local police reached the venue following a complaint that, the bride had not attended the marriageable age.
The officials managed to stop the marriage by convincing the family members of the bride later.
The groom party which was en-route to the marriage venue in a procession cancelled it at Gopalpur Bazaar and evaded arrest by returning back.
