Good news! Price of edible oil slashed, check details

Cuttack: In what can be considered as a piece of good news for the consumers, the price of edible oil has been slashed. The price of mustard oil has been reduced by Rs 10 per litre on Tuesday.

Informed about the development, Secretary of Odisha Traders Association, Sudhakar Panda said that the price of the mustard oil has been cut by Rs 10 per litre in the wake of the reduction of prices of fuel (petrol and diesel). It is to be noted here that the Union Government has reduced the Petrol price by Rs 9.5 and diesel by Rs 7 per litre.

Therefore, the consumers, who pay Rs 180- Rs 200 for one litre of mustard oil, will now pay Rs 170- Rs 190. However, the new price will come into effect from next week.

It is expected that the prices of sugar, refined oil and other essential commodities will also likely come down gradually.

The price of mustard oil has been reduced by Rs 10 per litre.

I think this is not the right way to do it, The right way is to open Government Manufacturing plants and then supply a quality product and affordable rates – An affordable rate means Rs. 80-100 per liter. This will benefit in two ways:

    1. Govt will be able to create jobs while producing the products.
    2. Govt will be in control and there will be competition in the market and the government will always have an upper hand.

It makes much more sense when the government works as a provider for the upliftment of people. It’s not a good idea to rely purely on corporates for job creation and production of edibles and commodities.

Probably we need to redefine the rules, which are pro-people and the government does not work only as a tax collector but as a facilitator for the upliftment of lives.
