Ganja worth Rs 10 lakh seized from vehicle in Odisha

Koraput: More than one kilo of ganja/cannabis have been seized from a vehicle in Koraput. Based on a reliable information, Machkund police and Lamtaput police conducted a joint raid near Kakalpada forests and intercepted the vehicle.

The vehicle, bearing registration number HR 51Y 0456, was illegally transporting the ganja to Delhi and Haryana.

On seeing the team of police, the gang of smugglers managed to escape from the spot. However, the cops seized the huge quantity of ganja along with the car from the spot. The value of the seized ganja is estimated to be worth Rs 10 lakhs.

A manhunt has been initiated to apprehend the escaped drug smugglers, said Nandapur SDPO.

Earlier this month, more than one kilo of ganja was seized from a commercial vehicle in Malkangiri under Chitrakonda police limits. Chitrakonda Police intercepted a Tata Ace vehicle that was en-route to to Rajahmundry, Andhra Pradesh and seized 1501 kg 250 gm of ganja. The value of the seized ganja is estimated to be more than 1.5 crore.

Prior to that, Adava Police had seized over 20 quintals of ganja from a granite-laden truck near Mandrabaju village in R.Udaigiri area of Gajapati district and arrested two smugglers. They have been identified as Ravi Singh and Raju Singh of Aligarh in Uttar Pradesh. As many as 70 sacks of Ganja were seized from the truck. The value of the seized ganja has been estimated to be Rs 1 crore, SDPO of R.Udayagiri.
