Puri: At least 1 person was killed and two others turned critical in an explosion which took place during firecracker preparation in Kamasasan village under Puri Sadar police limits here today and blew up five houses.
The deceased has been identified as Rajas Parida of the same village.
As per the report, a number of people were working at a firecracker unit which was running at Rajas’s house since long. However, due to lack of safety measures this morning, one of the crackers went off during composition and caused a massive fire which gutted the unit along with four other houses located nearby.
While Rajat died on the spot due to the explosion, two others who sustained injuries were taken to Puri DHH for treatment.
Sadar Police have reached the spot and seized the body for autopsy. It is also examining whether the firecracker unit was running with a license or not.
