Ex-para medical worker convicted in bribery case, gets rigorous imprisonment

Dhananjaya Panigrahi, the ex- Para Medical Worker (Retired) of Birkera Community Heath Centre in Sundergarh district has been convicted and sentenced to a rigorous imprisonment in bribery case.

The Special Judge of Vigilance in Sundergarh convicted Panigrahi and sentenced him to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of 2 years and fine of Rs 1,000. In default of payment of fine, he will have to undergo further rigorous imprisonment for a period of 1 month more for the offence U/s 13(2) r/w 13(1)(d) of P.C. Act,1988.

Panigrahi was charge sheeted by Odisha Vigilance in a case vide Spl. Judge Vigilance Sundargarh TR No.180/2016 U/s 13(2) r/w 13(1)(d)/7 P.C. Act,1988 for demanding and accepting bribe from a complainant for preparation of Birth Certificates of his sons.

The court further sentenced him to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of 1 year and fine of Rs 1,000 and in default of payment of fine, to undergo further rigorous imprisonment for a period of 1 month more for the offence U/s 7 P.C. Act, 1988. Both the sentences are to run concurrently.

Odisha Vigilance will now move the competent authority for stoppage of pension of the ex- Para Medical Worker (Retired) following his conviction.
