Malkangiri: In an example of degrading moral values in the society, a pregnant woman ostracised from Kamarguda village under Mathili block of Malkangiri district was compelled to deliver in a nearby forest on Monday after being denied any assistance by the villagers. The mother and the new-born were later shifted to Mathili hospital by a 102 ambulance.
The unfortunate incident occurred yesterday after the pregnant woman, identified as Gouri Pujari of Dalapatiguda, reported labour pain while her husband was out of home on some work. While the woman was in urgent need of assistance to reach the hospital, nobody in the village came to help her taking into account the fact that she had been ostracised for marrying outside her caste. While walking on her own to the Mathili Community Health Centre on her own, Gouri delivered twins on a forest road after hours of acute pain.
Later in the day, a 102 ambulance passing through the road shifted both the mother and the twins to the CHC where they are now stated to be stable.
