Dandia dance competition held in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: A Dandia dance competition ‘Feel D Stick 2019’ held in the capital city lately. Sarita Mishra and Subhashree Sahoo won the contest while Meghna Mohapatra was announced the runners up.

The winner pair danced to the tune of the famous Bollywood number ‘Dhol Baaje’ to win the title “QUEEN OF THE STICK”. Ahead of the competition about 50 women got training on Dandia and Garba dance in a workshop. Off them 30 girls participated in the contest. The competitors were allowed to dance either as solo performer or in duet or in group.

A 9-year-old kid Debasmita Senapati was announced as the ‘Top Performer of the evening. Besides, three other participants, namely Epsita Sahu, Arpita Kuanr and Meghna were selected to be featured in YouTube music videos to be released soon.

While the winners and runners up received cash prize other than certificate, other participants were given special gifts. All the participants of the workshop were given certificates, as well as colorful wooden Dandiya sticks.

On this occasion a western dance competition titled ‘BEAT THE BEAT CHAMPIONSHIP 2019’ also held. Fifty number of kids in the age group of 5 to 15 participated in this contest. Nine-year-old Pratyush Panda won the contest for his Contemporary dance form. The runners up were Ashutosh Baishya (7), Jaanvi (9), Ananya Paul (5) and Snehashree Panda (5).

Besides, Treeshna Tamanna Pati, Bhabya Priyadarshini Jena, Ranjan Barik, Sanskriti Jena, Santanu Kumar Mohanty and Sadhana Parida received the special jury award.

Organised by ARJ Studio Event partner of the contest was Geneva Fitness Club. Host for the evening was Subhojit Panda. The contests were judged by Ritesh RJ.

Ritesh has successfully participated in famous dance shows like India’s Dancing Superstar, Dancing Superstar, and Best of Odisha. He was the celebrity choreographer of Tarang Mahamuqabla Season 4. He excels in dance forms like Contemporary, Jazz, Broadway, Latin dance forms, Hip hop and hardcore freestyle.

Faculty of the Garba workshop was ZIN Anvie. She is well versed in folk and western dance forms.

Chief Guest of the evening was Durgashish Mohanty, founder/owner of Geneva fitness club. He is the winner of many Body Building & heavy weight championship in the National level.
