Cyclone Asani: Eye of Severe Cyclonic Storm visible in Machilipatnam Doppler Radar

Bhubaneswar: The eye of the severe cyclonic storm Asani has been visible in Andhra Pradesh’s Machilipatnam Doppler Radar, informed the Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar on Tuesday.

The weather department added that the eye was visible at 9 am this morning. It is likely to weaken gradually into a CS during the next 24 hours.

The system will cross Odisha coast as a deep depression. Most likely it will pass around 78 kms off the coast near Gopalpur in the morning of 12th May. The rainfall intensity will increase in coastal districts tomorrow as 7-11 cm rainfall has been expected in some areas, added the weather department.

The severe cyclonic storm Asani is 490 km south-southwest of Gopalpur while 570 km southwest of Puri, and is currently moving west-northwest 10 km per hour.

Notably, the Ganjam District Administration has restricted the people from visiting Gopalpur and other sea beaches in the district for the next two days in view of severe cyclonic storm Asani.

Reportedly, the people have been asked not to visit the sea beaches today and tomorrow. Danger signal 3 has been issued for Gopalpur port.

Similarly, danger signal 2 has been issued for Puri, Chandbali, Dhamra, and Paradip ports.

Rainfall Forecast and Warnings:

  • From 8.30 am of May 10 to 8.30 am of May 11- A yellow warning has been issued as heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Gajapati, Ganjam and Puri.
  • From 8.30 am of May 11 to 8.30 am of May 12- A yellow warning has been issued as heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Ganjam, Khorda,Puri, Jagatsinghpur and Cuttack.
  • From 8.30 am of May 12 to 8.30 am of May 13- A yellow warning has been issued as heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Kendrapada, Bhadrak and Balasore.
