CM lays foundation stone for ‘smart toilet’, launches ‘mechanical sweeping’ in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: With an objective to revolutionise the cleanliness and sanitation in the capital city Bhubaneswar, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik laid foundation stone for the ‘smart toilets’ and ‘mechanical sweeping’ facility projects during a program held at the NICCO park square here today.

Bhubaneswar Mayor Ananta Narayan Jena who was present at the program informed, at least 60 prefabricated modular toilets will be erected at 30 designated locations in the city in the coming days.

“The smart toilets will be installed at the crowded points of the city. While 40 of these toilets will have normal door entry, rest 20 will be equipped with card entrance facility. Such toilets cost over Rs 19 lakh/unit,” said Jena.

BMC has hired a private party namely Eram Scientific Solutions Private Limited for the construction of the e-toilets, as per the reports.

Similarly, BMC has entered into an agreement with two other private companies, one each from Delhi and Jamshedpur namely M/s Pro Power Sweeping Pvt Limited and M/s United Air Express. These companies will implement the mechanical sweeping in the city.

“In the first phase a target has been set to clean 80 kilometres stretch of main roads in Bhubaneswar through the mechanical sweeping facility. Approximately Rs 10 cr per annum will be spent in this project and four machines will be engaged in the service,” said Jena.

BMC Commissioner Krishan Kumar informed that two mechanical sweeping machines have already arrived in the city and rest two will reach by October 25. These machines capable of collecting dust type of Particulate Matter (PM) from size 2.5 to 10 will be catalyst in checking air pollution in the city, he added.
