Brown sugar worth Rs 31 lakh seized in Balasore, 1 detained

Balasore: Excise sleuths seized brown sugar weighing 310 grams from a house of a drug paddler during a raid at Sashanbad village under Jaleswar police limits in Odisha’s Balasore district on Wednesday.

The accused drug paddler, identified as Meer Rahat alias Muna, managed to flee from the spot during the raid. However, his mother was detained by excise officials in this connection.

Acting on a tip off, a joint team of Jaleswar police and excise officials conducted a raid at Muna’s residence this morning. The seized brown sugar is stated to be worth around Rs 31 lakh, officials said.

Yesterday, Excise sleuths nabbed a brown sugar dealer and seized 60 grams of the contraband worth around Rs 7 lakh from his possession during a raid at Rajpur village in Jaleswar area in the district.
