Looter Gang Kingpin Held After Police Encounter In Cuttack

Cuttack : The kingpin of an inter-state looter gang was arrested following an encounter with police near Naraj Anicut Chhak in Odisha’s Cuttack in the wee hours of Wednesday.

The accused, identified as Sachin Pawar alias Bablu, sustained bullet injuries on his right leg during exchange of fire with police. He has been admitted to the SCB Medical College and Hospital here for treatment.

Based on a tip-off about the gang’s movement in Naraz area for committing a dacoity, a joint team of Special Squad of the Commissionerate Police and Choudwar Police raided a house in the area at around 4.30 AM.

In a bid to escape the arrest, the looters opened fire at the cops.  In retaliation, the police too fired in which Bablu was hit in his right leg and was subsequently nabbed.

As many as three policemen were reportedly injured in the exchange of fire. However, two aides of Babul managed to flee from the spot.

A gun and bullets have been seized from Bablu’s possession, police sources said.

More than 15 cases of crimes are pending against Bablu in different police stations across the State and outside, sources added.
