Brown sugar worth 12 lakh seized from car in Odisha, 3 held

Jaleswar: Tightening the noose around the necks of illegal drug traders in the state, Excise officials seized 120 gms of brown sugar near Gayatri petrol pump on NH-60 under Jaleswar police limits on early Sunday and arrested three peddlers.

A team of central Excise intelligence officials conducted a vehicle check at NH-60 after getting a tip-off on the banned drug consignment this morning. During the search, at least 120 gm of the white poison was found from a car and three persons boarding it were taken into custody.

The seized brown sugar is estimated to be about Rs 12 lakh. Also seized were three mobile phones and cash worth Rs 2820.

It was reported that the accused were carrying the white poison in an Indigo eCS, originating from West Bengal. The car has also been seized, informed OIC Haraprasad Rana.

The accused have been identified to be from Hansapura, Bhubaneswar.
