Bhubaneswar ranks 18th in Ease of Living Index

Bhubaneswar: The capital city of Odisha, Bhubaneswar, has been ranked 18th among 111 cities of the country in the “Ease of Living Index” launched by the Union Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry on last evening. Steel City Rourkela stood at 87th rank.

Bhubaneswar, the temple city, scored 46.19 points out of 100, while Rourkela stood at 87th position with 28.84 points. Pune topped the index with 58.11 points followed by Navi Mumbai with 58.02 points.

The national capital New Delhi and Chennai have been ranked at 65 and 14th position respectively, while Kolkata did not participate in the survey.

The State Capital stood at rank one in the category of public open spaces. It bagged 11th position in Education, 25th in governance, 19th in identity and culture, 17th in safety and security, 18th in economy and employment, 10th in transportation and mobility, 33rd in solid waste management and 40th in power supply.

However, the city  scored low in some key areas namely housing, health, land use, power supply, waste-water management etc.

This is the first-ever exercise undertaken by the ministry to rank the country’s major cities on the basis of four parameters of ease of living – governance, social, economic and physical infrastructure.
