Berhampur: Curiosity struck locals in Alarigarh area under Sheragada police limits in Ganjam district today after an elephant calf fell into a hole and later rescued by forest department officials.
A group of locals reached a hole located near farmland on the outskirts of the village early in the morning today and discovered the baby elephant after reaching the spot. Later, they called up forest department officials.
A joint team of forest department officials and ODRAF personnel rescued the calf with the help of JCB machines of late post a Herculean effort.
