Berhampur: Congress MLA candidate from Aska assembly constituency, Manoj Kumar Jena sustained critical injuries after being shot at by unidentified miscreants at Oxford School Chhak near Lanjipalli here in Ganjam district this evening.
Jena was immediately rushed to the MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur from where he was shifted to Bhubaneswar.
Eyewitnesses said that four bike-borne miscreants opened fire at Jena and his associates. The miscreants also assaulted Jena with sharp-edged weapons.
SP, Berhampur Pinka Mishra visited the Medical College and said that police are trying to nab the accused. “Jena was coming from Bhubaneswar in an SUV when he stopped at the bypass to attend nature’s call. The miscreants who seemed to be following him opened fire at him. Treatment of Jena is our first priority,” said Mishra.
