Amicus Curiae has sought report on Puri violence: SJTA Chief Administrator

Puri: Chief administrator of Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) Pradipta Mohapatra today informed that Supreme Court-appointed Amicus Curiae Gopal Subhramanium expressed his displeasure over the violence during bandh in Puri yesterday and has sought reports over the matter.

“After learning about the matter Supreme Court-appointed Amicus Curiae Gopal Subhramanium spoke to me over the phone and enquired about matter. Besides, he asked for a report over the matter,” said Mohapatra.

“I will submit a detailed report in this regard along with video footage of the incident to the amicus curiae by tomorrow and day after tomorrow,” he added.

The SJTA Chief Administrator also said that what happened in Puri yesterday is very unfortunate and has bought bad names to the servitors. Two separate complaints have been filed urging strong actions against the violent agitators who went berserk and vandalised temple properties.

It is worthwhile to mention here that the Jagannath Sena had observed a 12-hour bandh protesting the queue system at the Srimandir yesterday. However, the bandh took a violent turn when the protesters hurled stones at the residence of Minister Maheswar Mohanty’s residence and Puri SP.

The violent mob also uprooted barricades in the Bada Danda (Grand Road), ransacked SJTA office and pelted stones on police personnel.

Later in the evening, a meeting of peace committee was called in which it was decided that the locals can enter through three doors by producing any of their identity cards. However, the temple servitors and their family members have been exempted from the rule.

On the other hand, DGP R P Sharma today visited the Pilgrim City today and took stock of the situation.
