Bhubaneswar: All the educational institutions in Khordha will remain closed for two days in view of the upcoming Odisha Municipal Elections on March 24, 2022, informed District Collector Sangram Keshari Mohapatra.

Reportedly, the schools and colleges will remain closed on March 23 March 24 in view of elections to ULBs.

The campaigning has ended at 5 pm on March 22. The voting will begin from 8 AM-5 PM on March 24. Around 22,000 polling personnel will be deployed during the voting on Mar 24 in which a total of 40.55 lakh voters will cast their votes.

There will be three strong rooms for EVMs under CCTV surveillance. Each booth will have one presiding officer and four pooling officers. There will be no Covid restrictions during the upcoming Odisha Municipal Elections. The counting will be held on March 26 to begin at 8 AM.

Notably, the Odisha government has instructed to grant paid holidays to the employees of various departments on the date of the poll to cast their votes in the upcoming municipal elections. The Labour department wrote a letter to the Revenue Divisional Commissioners, Collectors, Public sector undertakings, Corporations, Establishments, Business, Trade, and Industrial Undertakings.

Adding to it, Odisha government has imposed a ban on the sale and distribution of liquor five days in view of the upcoming general elections to Urban Local Bodies across the State from 5 PM of March 22 to March 26. No liquor shops, hotels, restaurants, clubs and other establishments selling/serving liquor shall be permitted to sell/ serve liquor to anyone whosoever.

Non-proprietary clubs, star hotels, restaurants etc. and hotels run by anyone even if they are issued different categories of licenses for possession and supply of liquor shall also not be permitted to serve liquor on these days.

The storage of liquor by individuals shall be curtailed during the above period and the restrictions provided in the exercise law on the storage of liquor in unlicensed premises shall be vigorously enforced.
