Keonjhar: In gruesome incident in the Rangamatia village under Nayakot police limits in Keonjhar district, unidentified miscreants hacked an aged couple to death and injured their son and daughter critically by attacking them with swords and arrows on Tuesday night.
The deceased have been identified as Bhamia Pradhan and his wife Gangi Pradhan.
Reports say some unidentified armed assailants barged into the house of Bhamia Pradhan in Rangamatia village at around 10 o’clock in the night yesterday and started attacking the family members brutally. The attackers hacked Bhamia and his wife Gangi to death with swords and aimed arrows at their son and daughter Mangal Singh Pradhan and Sumitra Pradhan respectively. While an arrow struck Mangal on the chest another pierced into Sumitra’s head leaving both of them critical.
The incident came to fore after some neighbours of the family spotted the family in trouble and called up police today morning. Police rushed the injured duo to the district headquarters hospital where their condition remains critical.
Speaking to media persons, Mangal, who received an arrow shot on the chest, said as it was dark he was not able to identify the attackers. But he informed that the incident happened around 10 pm on Tuesday.
When contacted over the incident, Keonjhar SP Rajesh Pandit informed that the attack was the fallout of a past enmity between two groups of the village over a land dispute and police has identified the main accused. The accused would be nabbed within 24 hours, he assured
