Abhijit Iyer to be produced before court today after completion of remand

Konark: Tainted journalist Abhijit Iyer Mitra who has been arrested in connection with his derogatory remarks on Konark Sun Temple, Odisha lawmakers and Lord Jagannath will be produced in the court of Judicial Magistrate (First Class), Konark today after completion of his remand period with Konark Police.

During his remand period with Konark Police, Mitra was thoroughly quizzed on his derogatory remark on Konark Sun Temple, which has hurt the religious sentiments of the people of Odisha. A case under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Information Technology (IT) Act has been lodged against him in connection with the remark on the basis of a complaint lodged by Bimbadhar Goura of Konark area.

In another development in the case, Odisha Police on Saturday dismissed the media reports about the arrest of Abhijit Iyer Mitra in connection with his comments on Rasogalla on Twitter. Such reports are “false and mischievous” it said in a release.

Notably, in response to a summon by Odisha Assembly House Committee Mitra appeared before a House Committee it last Tuesday and tendered an unconditional apology. He was arrested by police later.
