5-feet-long crocodile caught in fishing net in Balasore

Soro: Curiosity prevailed among locals after a 5-feet-long saltwater crocodile fell in the net of a fisherman during fishing near Barajadeuli on Monday.

The incident took place minutes after a group of local fishermen from Rupakhand village under Kharasahapur panchayat went to sea for fishing in the morning at around 10 am. While fishing the crocodile weighing around 20.25 kg fell in the net.

After bringing the reptile ashore the fishermen informed the Barajadeuli Forest Bit, DFO Biswaraj Panda directed his staff for rescue.

The rescued crocodile, which is believed to have been sneaked to the area from Bhitarkanika sanctuary, have been sent for a health check-up at a Veterinary centre in Chandipur. It would be released into water post the medical test, said a forest official.

Notably, 3-4 years ago a 7-feet-long crocodile had fallen in the fishermen’s net in Kantia Chiranala area in the district in a similar fashion.
