4 fishermen critical in explosion during boat construction on Chilika coast

Brahmagiri: Locals were left in a state of panic in Arakhakuda village on the banks of Chilika lake near here this morning after at least four members of a family sustained critical injury in an explosion which took place during a boat construction work.

The injured have been identified as Abinash Behera, Babul Behera, Abhiram Behera and Narasingha Behera of the same village.

As per the information, family members of one Shiva Behera, who is a fisherman by profession was busy in construction of the fishing boat on the banks of the lake. While preparing a solution by mixing three chemicals to give a coat on the newly constructed boat a sudden explosion took place, the sound of which even resonated to the nearby villages.

The victims were immediately rushed to Rebana-Nuagaon CHC for treatment by the locals and later rushed to Puri District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) due to deteriorating condition.

Arakhakuda Marine Police is investigating into the incident.
