Rourkela: In a success against drug peddlers in the Steel City, police seized around 38 kg of ganja and arrested two persons from Gopabandhu Palli area under Plant Site police limits on Friday.
The arrested duo has been identified as Bir Bahadur Tanti of Gopabandhu Palli area in Rourkela and Nazir Ahmed of neighbouring Bihar state.
Plant Site Police conducted the raid after getting tip-off on the ganja transport through Rourkela Railway Station yesterday afternoon. After reaching the spot with an Executive Magistrate and an informer, police took the accused duo into custody and seized ganja sacks from their possession.
Informing on the arrest, Plant Site Police Station IIC Upendra Pradhan said this is for the first time that ganja in such a large quantity has been seized from the area. He added the involvement of the arrested duo in similar cases under other police station areas is suspected and being investigated.
