Berhampur: At least 30 houses were gutted and property worth lakhs lost in a massive fire which broke out in Sunathar village under Purushottampur police limits in Ganjam district on Monday.
As per the report, sparks erupted at a house in the village early in the morning while everybody was asleep in the village and later spread to its neighbourhood. Till the victim family woke up and launched firefighting efforts the blaze had engulfed as many as 30 houses.
As the village was comprising of mostly thatched houses the flames spread very fast and burnt down valuable items including furniture, electronic goods and food grains worth lakhs of rupees till fire brigade teams Purushottampur reached the spot and doused it.
While the cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, an electric short circuit is being feared in the mishap.
