Baripada: In a tragic incident, three persons were mowed down by a speeding truck in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district this evening.
The road mishap took place when a truck run over a motorcycle on National Highway (NH) 18 at Dantimuhan Chhak under Betanati Police limits of the district.
The deceased persons have been identified as Dhana Singh of Rangapani, Gala Singh and Monga Singh of Trilachanpur.
The deceased persons were travelling on a bike to attend the dasa kriya of the mother of their brother-in-law in Nuasahi. All of them died on the spot.
Tension prevailed in the area following the death of the trio as locals demanded stringent action against the truck driver and adequate compensation for the kin of the deceased persons.
On being informed, Betanati Police reached the spot and sent the bodies to the hospital for postmortem after pacifying the angry locals.
An investigation into the matter is underway.
