3 including toddler sustain burn injuries in firecracker explosion in Cuttack

Cuttack: Amid continues seizure of firecrackers in Cuttack, three including a toddler have sustained serious burn injuries due to an explosion while making firecracker on Wednesday.

The incident took place at Athagarh’s Baneswarpada village in Tigiria block today afternoon. According to reports, the firecrackers were being bundled at a person named Dhira Swain’s house.

During the process, an explosion occurred in which Dhira, a four year old baby and a worker sustained severe burn injuries.

They were immediately rushed to Community Health Center, Tigiria for medical treatment and later as their health condition deteriorated, they were shifted to S.C.B. Medical College and Hospital.

Swain has sustained 70 per cent burns while the toddler is critical, added reports.

It is to be noted that the Commissionerate Police have seized huge quantity of firecrackers from Bidanasi and Jagatpur area of Cuttack recently.

It is noteworthy of that the Orissa High Court on Monday allowed sale and use of green crackers during this year’s Diwali celebration.

Only those traders/dealers who obtain and produce a certificate from the Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organisation (PESO) have been allowed to sell their products. The retailers who obtain a license from the concerned authorities under the provisions of the Indian Explosive Act, 1884 are allowed to sell green fireworks. Traders/dealers who fail to obtain and produce the certificate from PESO will not be allowed to sell their products.
