MLAs hurl shoes at Speaker during House proceeding in Odisha Assembly

Bhubaneswar: An ugly scene was witnessed at Odisha Assembly during House proceedings on Saturday. As per reports, two BJP MLAs hurled shoes, earphones and papers at the podium of Speaker Surya Narayan Patro after the Speaker rejected an adjournment motion over the passing of the Odisha Lokayukta (Amendment) Bill.

As per reports, BJP MLAs Jaynarayan Mishra and Bishnu Sethi hurled shoes, papers, pen and earphone to the Speaker’s podium to protest the rejection of the adjournment motion over the passing of the Odisha Lokayukta (Amentment) Bill.

Following the incident, when asked about the incident Speaker S N Patro said, “I am examining the photos and law will take its own course.”

BJP MLA Bishnu Sethi refuted the allegation of throwing shoes at the speaker and said, “Without discussion he passed the Lokayukta (Amendment) Bill. Such undemocratic attitude of the Speaker is unfortunate.”

Jaynarayan Mishra said, “Whatever we have done it is very much in front of everybody. We have not done anything wrong.”

Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Narasingha Mishra condemned the act.

Update:

Three BJP MLAs, Jay Narayan Mishra, Bishnu Charan Sethi and Mohan Majhi have been suspended in the matter of hurling shoes at Speaker S N Patro in Odisha Assembly today till end of this Assembly session.
