Kendrapara: Two minor sisters drowned in a pond while a third sister was rescued in a serious condition in Mugakani village under Hatina GP of Rajanagar police limit in Kendrapara district on Sunday.
The deceased minor girls have been identified as Sasmita Muduli (13) and Sujata Muduli(10), daughters of Susant Muduli of Mugakani village whereas their elder sister, who was rescued by villagers before she drowned while trying to save her sisters, was identified as Suchitra Muduli(15), informed Sukanta Kumar Patra, the IIC of Rajnagar police station.
While taking bath, Sujata was the first to slip into the pond. Watching her sister drowning, Susmita tried to save her, but she too was sucked into the water. On hearing their screams, their elder sister Sucharita, who was playing nearby, jumped headlong into the pond but she too began going down before villagers rescued her in a critical condition and rushed her to the Rajnagar CHC for treatment.
The lifeless bodies of Sujata and Susmita were fished out of water by the villagers. Rajnagar police later seized the dead bodies sent them for autopsy to Aul CHC. An unnatural death case (no-13/17) has been registered at Rajnagar police station in this regard.
