Jharsuguda: At least 2 cops were killed and 30 others sustained injuries after a police van carrying them was hit head-on by a speeding truck near Belpahar on NH-49 in Jharsuguda district this morning.
The mishap took place early in the morning while the van was en-route to Banharpali to get deployed for CM Naveen Patnaik’s scheduled visit to OPGC today.
As per the eyewitnesses, the van bearing registration number OR 05 T 9536 and carrying around 30 policemen was hit by a speeding truck which was coming from the opposite direction near Belpahar on the highway.
The impact of the collision was so high that the van got completely damaged from the front leaving all 30 cops injured with 11 among them critically.
All the injured were admitted to a local hospital immediately by some locals and 11 of them were later shifted to VIMSAR in Burla.
Police have started an investigating into the accident.
