12 students of VIMSAR in Odisha detected with Covid Delta variant

Sambalpur: As many as 12 students of Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR), Burla out of the 21 samples, sent for genome sequencing, were found infected with the Delta variant of Covid-19, said official sources.

It is to be noted that 22 MBBS students of the institute were first found infected with the virus on November 22. The students had developed symptoms of Covid-19 post the annual function UTKARASH-2021.

With the subsequent rise in cases, samples of 21 Covid infected students had been sent to the Institute of Life Sciences in Bhubaneswar for genome sequencing.

The staff quarters of Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR), Apala Girls Hostel, Atreya Hostel, Biswamitra Hostel, and Markandeya Hostel and all the staff quarters under Ward No- 6 have been declared as buffer zones.

The contact tracing of all the Covid positive MBBS students is underway. The college authorities have initiated the sanitization procedure to curb the further spread of the covid infection. All the exams and practicals will be conducted in online mode.
