10 more MBBS students of Odisha’s VIMSAR test positive for Covid-19

Sambalpur: As many as 10 MBBS students of Burla Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) in Odisha’s Sambalpur district have tested positive for COVID-19 on Tuesday.

The Covid positive tally in the premier medical institute has risen to 74 post the detection of new coronavirus cases.

Meanwhile, Dean of VIMSAR, Professor Jayshree Dora, informed that the health condition of all covid positive students is stable and others, who are suspected to have been infected with the deadly virus, have been kept in isolation at the Covid-19 unit of VIMSAR to prevent the further spread of the covid infection.

It is to be noted here that several hostels and staff quarters of the VIMSAR have been declared as micro containment zones and buffer zones by the Sambalpur district administration. Earlier, 64 students of VIMSAR had tested positive for Covid-19. The swab samples of 21 Covid infected students of VIMSAR have been sent for genome sequencing to Institute of Life Sciences (ILS) in Bhubaneswar.

The contact tracing of all the Covid positive MBBS students is underway. The college authorities have initiated the sanitization procedure in order to curb further spread of the covid infection. All the exams and practicals will be conducted in online mode.
