New Delhi: In the aftermath of India’s heart-wrenching loss to Australia in the ODI World Cup 2023 Final, Suryakumar Yadav, the stand-in captain for the T20I series against Australia, extended heartfelt thanks to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his motivational support.
After the defeat, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the Indian team’s dressing room to uplift the spirits of the dejected players. Yadav, in a video released by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), expressed the significance of the Prime Minister’s visit, describing it as a “big thing” for the team.
“PM Narendra Modi ji came to the dressing room and met everyone and gave us motivation. He said that it’s a sport and winning and losing is a part of it, ups and downs do come. It will surely take some time to get over the loss but his motivating speech for 5-6 minutes meant a lot. As a country’s leader, coming to the dressing room to motivate a sports team, it was a big thing for us,” said Yadav.
The Australian team, led by Pat Cummins, secured victory by 6 wickets in the finals, dashing the hopes of a billion Indians for a World Cup title after 12 years.
Suryakumar Yadav also expressed his gratitude to the fans for their unwavering support during the tournament. Despite the disappointment, he emphasized the lessons that sports teach and encouraged fans to continue showering their love on the team.
“It’s been 4-5 days since the World Cup 2023 finals, and everyone is disappointed. It was nice to see the kind of support our fans in India and from all over the world showed. At the end of the day, it’s a sport, it teaches us a lot. Keep showering your love on us,” remarked Yadav.
